We use premium manufacturing methods and carefully selected raw materials to bring you harnesses you can rely on.

How to put on a dog harness

Putting on a harness will depend on the style and fasteners that secure it but there are two main types.

For front clip and back clip harnesses there are three steps:

  1. Ease your dog’s head through the main hole in the harness.
  2. Adjust the positioning to ensure the clip is in the centre of your dog’s chest or back.
  3. Fasten all clips or buckles.

For a step-in harness, the process is slightly different.

  1. Loosen all straps and buckles and lay the harness down on the floor.
  2. Carefully step your dog’s legs into the front of the harness.
  3. Starting with the neck strap, fasten all buckles or clips.

How to measure your dog for a harness

To measure your dog for a harness you need to take two key measurements, one around the chest and one around the neck.  Use a soft tape measure and wrap it gently around the part you want to measure ensuring you can get two fingers under the tape to avoid it being too tight. When measuring, always measure at the widest point of the chest or neck.

What size harness do I need for my dog?

The size of the harness you need will depend on the style you’re shopping for. All our products have a Size & Fitting tab after the description which gives you specific information for sizing depending on the weight, neck, and girth of your dog.

Can a dog wear a harness instead of a collar?

A good harness is often the safest and most comfortable way to walk your dog because they fasten more securely and cover more of your dog to disperse pressure. While a good dog harness can make walks easier by distributing the load, they’re best used alongside a collar.

Not displaying your dog’s identification is against the law and many dog harnesses don’t have a place to display tags.  Choose a high-quality dog collar with space for tags to use with your harness to make sure you’re covered.

Can I leave my dog’s harness on all day?

Keeping your dog in its harness during walks provides extra comfort and control, and while a well-fitting, high-quality harness can be worn all day, we advise against it.  Keeping your dog in a harness all day can irritate the skin and restrict their movement. It can also cause excessive wear on the harness.

We recommend letting your dog have regular breaks from their harness so they can stretch, walk around, and generally be comfortable around the house and garden. Giving your dog the freedom to rest and move without a harness on is important for their physical and mental well-being.
